Increasing demands for social justice and sustainability in the Indian textile industry require a move towards greener practices and ethical labor standards. This includes utilizing sustainable raw materials and paying all workers fair wages and providing them with safe working conditions. The Indian textile industry generates approximately 7,793 kilotonnes of textile waste each year, which contributes 8.5% to the world's waste. Even with being among the largest employers in the country, most minority groups, especially women and youths from poor families, continue to have limited access to training and employment opportunities. This imbalance, coupled with increasing environmental issues, calls for a reconsideration of the production of textiles.
ReWeave was founded in July 2025 with the vision that textile production can be a channel for sustainable development and empowerment. ReWeave addresses social inclusion and environmental accountability through the provision of access to skilling programs and collaborations with responsible businesses.
ReWeave is, at its core, about having an impact in the real world. ReWeave's method makes a clear path for sustainable output by combining training with action. ReWeave presents a resilient model for systemic change in India's textile sector through collaborations with forward-thinking textile producers.
